Review of "Grave Mercy" by Robin LaFevers

Hello everyone! Before I get started with this review I just want to take a minute to say that I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and a Happy New Year! I also just want to tell you that there will be new reviews here about once a month, because they do take quite a while. Anyway, I read Grave Mercy some time last year, so my facts might be a little weird. I was introduced to this book by my grandparents, who often give me book reviews from The New York Times or other sources of books that they think I might be interested in. Grave Mercy was a captivating story about a girl named Ismae who escaped an arranged marriage to join the convent of one of the old gods- in particular, the god of death, Mortain. She finds out that she has been given powerful gifts by Mortain, and goes on to become an assassin for the convent. She is given a very important assignment that tests both her skills as an assassin and her will to succeed. In the end, Ismae makes a surprising choice about her destiny and begins to make a life of her own choosing. Ismae's story is a beautifully written story in a first person point of view, which is one of my personal favorites in terms of writing styles. I would recommend Grave Mercy to anyone looking for a really good read. It is, however, a little long at 549 pages. However, the story just flies by- I think I finished it in two or three days. Also, I'm very excited to say that I got a large bag full of new books for Christmas and that the third in one of my favorite series is coming out I think next month, so that will make for some really exciting new material. Once again, please leave any suggestions down in the comments or send me an email. Thanks!
